Getting Started...

• Using an IRC program, join irc.diablerie.org.

• Join #registration (any channel will do as long as there is a bot in it), if you have not previously been to diablerie, you should get a bot message explaining that you are not recognized

• Type !new

• Get the character sheet from the bot by typing !vtm. This sheet works even if you are not playing a vampire, its a text sheet and you can make modifications to it. Fill out the sheet according to basic character rules. See Character for information on allowed character types and merits and flaws.

• At this point you may want to join #gamehelp, if an ST is in the channel they will help you immediately with the approval process. If not, fill out the sheet and DCC send Amaranth. If you don't receive word on approval within a day or so, check back with an ST, it usually means your sheet needs some adjustments.

Basic Information

Characters: We are currently approving vampire and mortal characters. Creation is according to regular character creation rules. All characters must be approved before play. Only one character per player is allowed. We have restrictions on character types, disciplines, merits and flaws. Restrictions are enacted in order to maintain game balance and create a realistic world. See Character Creation for more details on character types and bans.

Hunting: The bots keep track of a character's blood pool, in order to fill your blood pool you must make a hunt roll.

DiceBots: In the event that dice need to be rolled, we have a dice bot(s) that runs scripts. The bot also keeps track of blood pools, blood spends, and willpower and can be used to store notes. The bots are in all IC channels. Amaranth, Somnus, Praxis, and Urrah are all bots. See Protocol for a list of bot commands.

Storylines: Each player is responsible for their own storyline. Storytellers do not run private storylines, players interact with each other to further their own goals and stories in the chronicle. Storytellers will play NPC's for certain scenes, and monitor play.

Weapons: Many weapons and items will not be allowed. Generally, weapons of mass destruction, including explosives, fully automatic weapons, and certain types of ammunition. Have all weapons approved by an ST.

Netiquette: Management reserves the right to temporarily or permanently ban players from the server. Please read the server Protocol and Rules.

Storyteller Duties: Storytellers will be in #gamehelp to assist players with questions, approve characters, moderate combat, track xp, supply information that characters need, and solve character or player disputes. It is recommended that each player is familiar with the rules. Storytellers are not on duty to teach or tutor players in how the game works.

Experience: XP is gained for working toward storylines and playing your character well. Guidelines for XP awards are posted. * The Scene: The chronicle is based in St. Louis, each channel represents a location in the city. The exception is #ooc, and the #gamehelp and #evil channels.

IRC: Internet Relay Chat. The medium in which we play. You will need a program to run on your computer. IRCLE, MIRC, and PIRCH are common ones, but not the only ones.

Bot Commands & Protocol...

Here's some helpful information. This is in no way mean to substitute for the book, it is highly recommended that you read through the appropriate books to learn rolls for combat, disciplines, gifts, etc. This text is simply some of the commands unique to Diablerie that you will need. Vampires need to hunt, the bot keeps track of your bloodpool and willpower. Blood is subtracted at one per day (one per every three days if you are a ghoul). Willpower is substracted only if you spend it and is added back at the rate of one per day.

You may want to save and print this text out for easy reference.

Bot Commands

!getbp --will tell you your current blood pool
!getwp --will tell you your current willpower rating
!bp # --spends blood, you can spend blood to power disiplines or raise physical stats
!wp --spends willpower, you may only spend a willpower once per round for auto successes.
!giveblood <nickname> <amount> --will tell the bot to take the specified number of bps from you, and 'donate' them to another. This is only to be used in conjunction with roleplaying out a feeding scene ( This becomes really useful, for feeding ghouls. )

? <nickname> will give you a description of a character
!desc --sets your description

!inits <rating> --used to roll inits, where rating is your wits+dex, the bot adds it to 1d10 and posts your inits score

Dice Rolling

In the event that you need to roll dice for things, Diab will also do that for you

!roll <#of of dice> <diff> <reason>

example: !roll 7 7 Presence: Awe

the bot will roll for you and post your successes

Feeding

Vamps need to feed regularly, a simple system is used to keep track of blood pool and refill, role playing of the feeding is not necessary, but you can play it out if you like and have successfully made the feed roll

!feed <number of hours> <diff>

Example: !feed 3 6

The <number of hours> can be 1-3, but no more than three. <diff> depends on the area

See Hunting under Rules for detailed descriptions of difficulties and modifiers

If you are not online for a period of time and your bloodpool is reduced to zero due to daily maintenance, you may come to #gamehelp and request a ST to adjust it.

Channels

Do a channel list (/list) to see the areas of St. Louis. Channel topics will help you figure out what is used for what. Some are set areas, others are general purpose channels that you can use for just about anything.

Also, some channels/locations are -not- common knowledge, IC. Your character must first find the location of these places, before playing. These channels are easy to spot, if its secret location, it will say as much, in the channel topic.

Netiquette

When you go into a place all character actions should be expressed in :: ::, or use a /me.
OOC comments should be in (( )) and should be kept to a minimum in game channels.

For example:

<Johnny> ::walks into the bar and looks around::

<Johnny> ((places))

<Homey> ((sitting at the bar))

<Johnny> ::sees someone he knows sitting at the bar and walks up to Homey:: Hey, dude...what's up?

<Homey> ::turns on his barstool:: Nothing much.

Also, remember that many places have npc's and are crowded, when you go into a channel, you will need to RP finding someone and walking up to them before conversing, do not assume everyone in channel can hear you, or that you can hear everything said in a channel

Notes

To access your notes, via Amaranth, the command is...

/msg Amaranth notes <your password> read

To leave a note to someone, the command is..

/msg Amaranth notes <yourpassword> to <nickname>

Identing

At some point you may come on and Amaranth will not recognize you. Usually means your IP has changed. All you have to do is type
/msg Amaranth ident <yourpassword>
and the bot will add the new IP and recongnize you.

Common IRC Commands

Please refer to your IRC client's help file for a complete list of commands, common ones we use here are:

/msg <nick> --sends a private message to a person

/dcc send <nick> --sends a file to a person, this is how you will send character sheets to amaranth, after using this, you will have to browse for the file

/who :--gives you a list of people on the server

/join #name --joins a channel

/msg nickserv help register -- help with registering your nick with nickserv, it does not register you for the game. This is useful for making sure your nickname is not taken by another. Multiple names can be registered this way.

This text is for you, the player, to help you get the most out of your roleplaying experience. It's meant as a guide, to help get you started, and answers a lot of the common questions players have. If you have a question that was -not- addressed in this text, please feel free to come to #gamehelp, and ask a Storyteller. Thats what we're here for.
