Jayson Rilux

Some aspire to greatness, while others have greatness thrust upon them. Have you ever stopped to think about those that neither aspire toward, nor really care to have the greatness at all? What about those that receive the accolades and the rewards, but simply do not want them? Then, lastly, we have those that receive greatness, and suck at it.

Jayson comes from a clan that is both sizeable and potent among the Kindred of St Louis, the Brujah. Among its members, it boasts Kay Croft, one of the highest-ranking Kindred, not to mention one of the most powerful. Chris Pratt, the Sheriff, is a quiet and respected Kindred. Avery Beldon, who does not seem to be too high on anyone's likeability list, also maintains something of a position as Harpy, if one could call it that.

Jayson is a different story entirely. He is quite a potent Kindred by all rights. It is said that he possesses a strong degree of martial ability, and few Kindred of St Louis would not wish him to be by their side if trouble came calling. He has been described as a soldier, and a "good enough guy to have around." Ms Chase herself even described him as a cornerstone of the St Louis Camarilla. Why then, would he lack the prominence and, likely, respect due to him?

Despite his lacking in a position currently, Jayson has, at one time been the Primogen of the Brujah clan. He led the clan, with very little success. It is said by members of his own clan that he lacks the political skills to lead more properly. He has been compared to Arkady Filitov in their similar natures and prowess in combat. While Jayson seems at times, generally more sociable, he lacks Arkady's finesse and tact within the hallowed halls of Elysium.

Also, it can be said that Mr. Rilux is capable of extremely poor decision-making. Recently, he decided to abscond with the Marlo Chase's new BMW. Bare in mind, that the car is sparkling new, and he left it in a less than reputable state - apparently their was a foul stench left behind. It should go without saying that theft of a vehicle is a less than admirable action - the mortal institutions consider this a serious offense. The fact that the car belonged to the Prince of the City should speak volumes of the lack of wisdom such an activity would entail. It did not. His own Primogen states that she witnessed him in the car, and the Sheriff, a member of his own clan, was the one who founded said charges to the Prince. He further made himself look foolish both before the Camarilla and the Prince by denying the charges to her face. She complimented him, his service, and his loyalty to her and the sect. She made it so that he could confess and still keep his head above water. He chose to drown.

Emotional instability is a factor that one should consider as well. Is this a fair and correct assumption? Maybe. Maybe not. It is said that Ms Chase's vehicle was stolen in retribution for a lost trivia match. Two sides were answering questions given them by the Prince. There was no incredibly valuable prize given the victors. The gathering seemed as much fun as anything else, with a small bit of educational value present as well. If the theft was as a result to this game, then Mr. Rilux seems more representative of the fragile-minded Malkavian clan than the rowdy Brujah, although, I suppose that car theft is a rowdy and somewhat juvenile activity.

During the course of this documentation, I was apprised of a past conflict between Jayson and Arkady Filitov. From every statement, from most every Kindred having spent any time in St Louis, any conflict with Arkady would be paramount to suicide. Filitov refused to entertain questions as to the exact nature of their conflict, although he did defend Rilux saying that they were fighting, but Rilux had no intention of trying to kill him.

Rilux was much more open to discussion involving this incident, and I wonder if this would not lead additional credence to the notion of instability. It seems that Arkady and Jayson had both traveled to the East Side of St Louis in order to do some investigative work. While there, searching through cemeteries and other clandestine sorts of locations, they found a stone. I do not imagine the stone extraordinary in appearance, since Rilux did not refer to it as a gem or anything of significance, but I would wonder at its exact appearance, especially given the events that proceeded after the stone's discovery.

It seems the stone had some sort of strange magical properties. That is assumed anyway, as the stone is currently not in the hands of any friendly Kindred. After the discovery, there was a battle between Rilux and Arkady, which, since Arkady refused comment, Rilux's assertion that the stone had some sort of influence over them must be given some credit. He stated that both he and Arkady struggled with one another to obtain the mysterious stone. It was his statement that Arkady had won the rock through force. He then stated that he later managed to "pick-pocket" the stone back from Arkady.

Jayson claims that this must have been some prize for, or type of artifact for the Sabbat, since they seemed intent on possessing it. Not only did Jayson and Arkady go into notoriously Sabbat territory, but it was also a Sabbat member that had stolen the stone back from Jayson after combat, leaving Jayson alone after he'd absconded with the mineral.

This may be of interest to those that have only passing familiarity with the incident, since, as far as I know, no one has spoken too much about the specifics of the incident in question.

None of this is meant to say that Rilux is without his usefulness. He has been publicly described as loyal and an asset to the Camarilla. He is a potent force, if simply for the reason that he has survived in the oft-harrowing underworld that is the Kindred's Domain of St Louis. When asked, he counts himself as a planner for greater and future things first, but he states that St Louis has only allowed him to show that he is a survivor. A soldier with a true zest for survival and self-preservation is useful to any military force. Rilux has his place, even if it is as follower as opposed to leader.
