August 31st, 2002 - Powers that Be Things have settled some now, though there's an increasing movement and shifting among the clan elders. Jonathan Shrell proves to be a disappointment, this is what I get for optimism. Though, in theory, the Clan would appreciate having a balance of power, and a spreading of the wealth, such socialistic policies do not actually work in Kindred Society. I think I will just do what I tried to encourage Elena to do, and fill both positions until an obvious choice presents itself. Leaders cannot be made, and the propping and the patching only goes so far. Frankly, Im sick of it. Other shifts have occurred, Eva Jentre informs me that the clan has voted Mel out and her in. I'm always amazed to hear those kinds of stories. I wonder sometimes if it doesn't represent an overall shift in Camarilla politics, where leaders are voted into power, how very democratic, but will it work. Democracy has its problems also, sometimes the most popular is not the fittest. Creed was also promoted and then just as quickly dropped the mantle of leadership. Though he was capable, I think he was annoyed by the politics, annoyed by the harpy, perhaps even annoyed by the realization that Primogen have very little power at all. They don't. And as long as the clans remain wishy washy and voting people in and out, we'll never have a stable primogen council that has any power at all. It really is a sad state of affairs, and I'm as guilty as anyone else. I don't think Jonathan Shrell is going to work out. That man is a drama queen that could put a Toreador to shame. He ends up gone for days on end, then its some huge ordeal. Meanwhile, the clan itself can't get ahold of him, we have Court scheduled for tomorrow, and as far as I know, Jonathan hasn't even bothered to inform the clan about the decisions made in the council meeting two weeks ago. Its old news now, and I did take the liberty of spreading the information myself, as well as asking individual clan members to call him an ask him for the information. I have no idea what crisis pulled Jonathan away this week, I'm sure it will be something amazing. The only fix I can see for this conundrum is to take over the duties myself, at least until some obvious choice appears and not something chosen due to apathy and lack of anything better. My mistake. Bukowski drops subtle (and not so subtle hints) that I'm neglecting his training. I'm not sure whether he wants to go through agoge and be released or whether he enjoys the security and umbrella that my Accounting affords him. The second isn't such a bad place to be, at least for him - he should enjoy it while it lasts. Overall, he has exceeded my expectations, a fast learner (fortunately for him, since I don't have the time, and the Ventrue Clan doesn't seem interested) and he has good common sense. Common sense, isn't common. Mostly he spends a good deal of time over on the east side, near his haven, hangs with the anarchs occassionally, but I think they might give him the cold shoulder due to his ivory tower affiliations. But, he's definitely more tolerated over there than I would be. Damn the Man. Meanwhile the powers that be and switching and swishing and its hard enough for me to keep track of. My personal life is th same, but on a bright note, I think Faust is coming around.
