Addendum on Obfuscate and Cameras
We spent a while discussing a particular phrase in the book on the obfus and cameras issue, going back and forth on the pros and cons and the tiny exact wordings in the book on the issue, not to mention accessing even info on higher levels of the power (obfu 6, conceal was helpful), and it was determined that obfuscate must have a range, that it cannot be global. That is, a person watching a camera in St.louis on a video feed someplace else should not be effected by the obfuscators power, provided that were out of range, range being about 300 feet. So, for haven securities, monitors at the doors and other areas may show or detect an obfuscated person if the person watching the monitor is not in the immediate area.
Obviously, this precludes people using JamesBond type eye cameras with a wrist monitor to see and obfuscator around you. Its not meant to be used that way. But we do have to place a limit on how far and how much the power can effect. Globally seems too much. (Other points, if obfu can affect across cameras worldwide, what about Presence and Dementation..etc..its just too much).
Sorry for the confusion, as usual WW books are purposefully vague, giving a lot of power to the individual STs to make final decisions. This gets complicated on a game with 6 ST's and a hundred players. Everyone has an opinion. In the end, we strive for a balance, and it didn't seem balancing that no mechanical security equipment would detect an obfuscator, so much for any Haven Security.
Please don't abuse the Camera/Obfus
thing. No sending a ghoul around with a video cam and satellite feed to your
limo a mile away..etc...this ruling applies mostly to secured areas...specifically
Havens.
On a related note, understand that watching a video camera or taking pictures
of people in areas will not expose an obfuscated person right away. There is
a section about that, your mind just still won't react to them being there.
If you look at the picture at a later date, the fog may clear and you may notice
that there's a person there that you didn't remember. But the camera will not
tell you that that person is obfused either. Maybe you just don't remember them
being there. So dont bother going to riverfront, taking a bunch of polaroids
and walking away and looking to see who's obfused.
